Summer School Take Off to Milan & Como
Temporary Urbanism
(Temporary) Urbanism is the central theme of the Summer School in Milan and Como. Together with colleagues from the Politecnico di Milano and ETSAB Barcelona, selected spaces in the lakeside city of Como will be rethought with temporary interventions.
The pressure on urban (open) space is great and is subject to the most diverse, constantly changing spheres of influence: different users with different - sometimes contradictory - needs, the desire for “appropriation” of public space, climate crisis and resilience, seasons, tourism seasons, trends such as hybridization or event architecture and several other ecologically, economically and socially dominated motives, up to the currently most urgent task of climate-fit and sustainable (?) design.
How can temporary installations/measures lead to urbanity and (possibly) to local identity? How can existing systems in the surrounding area be recharacterized? Based on these initial questions, design approaches for temporary installations in urban squares/spaces in the historic center of Como and on the waterfront near the city center will be developed within the given short time frame (5 intensive days).
The working spaces are located at the Politecnico di Milano (Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci). Two day trips to Como are planned during the one-week LVA. The costs for this, as well as for work equipment and printing costs, will be financed by the university. Organization and financing of arrival/departure, overnight stays and meals are to be borne individually (excursion grant from TU Wien is in preparation).
