Design Studio Retrofit Großfeldsiedlung
Urban Transformation of Großfeldsiedlung
The design brief involves developing modular spatial “retrofitting” strategies for the urban, ecological, and social transformation of one of Vienna’s largest municipal housing complexes, the Großfeldsiedlung in Floridsdorf.
In the spirit of a “high-quality redevelopment of the existing urban fabric,” retrofitting processes are intended to improve the quality of life and well-being of the public housing residents. This also involves concepts for the active programming of open spaces in the context of sensitive redensification, as well as integrative measures to enhance climate resilience and circularity, social cohesion and the local economy, and biodiversity.
The “Designing the Design Studio Retrofit Großfeldsiedlung course shares thematic overlaps with the concurrently offered course Stadt_Exkursion Wien (260.915). However, both courses can be taken independently of one another!
