Seminar Linearity & Patchwork: Settlement Structures in Vienna's South
Historic villages form the starting point for the development of the south of Vienna into an urban landscape. Today, the area is characterized by a wide variety of structures: large-volume residential buildings, Gründerzeit style block development, garden settlements, villa neighbourhoods as well as commercial and industrial areas form a patchwork together with remaining village structures.
In this seminar, the changes in the linear village structures of Speising, Inzersdorf, Oberlaa etc. and the surrounding cultural and urban landscape will be examined together. One focus is on the interactions between social and political framework conditions and the structural-spatial transformation processes up to the “patchwork city” of the present.
