The Southern Railway Line as a multi-coded part of the urban landscape between Meidling and Mödling
The expansion of the Southern Railway between Meidling and Mödling is a key project in the transition to more sustainable forms of mobility. However, the new route is changing the city and the landscape, with new tracks, operating facilities and noise protection walls creating spatial barriers and divisions. Rather than viewing the railway as a barrier, we are designing strategies to transform the infrastructure into a multi-layered space, incorporating elements such as parks, cycle paths, meeting places and eco-corridors. The focus is on creating usable areas under, above and alongside the tracks, upgrading station surroundings and developing models for climate-friendly neighbourhoods. The Southern Railway Line is becoming a laboratory of ideas for how transport infrastructure can improve urban living and create added value for cities, the countryside and society.
