Design Studio Going Dutch
Unproductive? Productive!
Rotterdam, the second largest city in the Netherlands, is growing steadily and is facing new challenges. It is not only the increasing demand for living space that is putting pressure on inner-city port areas and open spaces. How can industrial areas be sustainably redesigned in the spirit of the productive city so that a mix of living, working and production is possible?
How can open spaces be developed in such a way that they meet the challenges of the climate and biodiversity crisis? And how can natural succession promote urban wilderness? In this course, you will deal with a specific urban area in Rotterdam, for which a master plan / framework plan is to be designed by thinking about productive city and “unproductive” open spaces in an interlinked way.
