Design Studio Tal-Schluss-Stadt
A design exploration of Vienna's valleys in three chapters
The north-west of Vienna is characterised by the gentle valleys of the Wienerwald streams, which have developed into settlement axes and sought-after residential areas with varying densities over the last two centuries. To this day, the protected landscape of the Vienna Woods forms the end of these finger-like settlement bands. As part of the course, students will develop future-oriented spatial visions for the transformation of these "Viennese valleys".
In three chapters, we will spend about a month each on one settlement corridor. Based on historical street villages and landscapes, new ribbon- and network-like structures are to be developed under the guiding principle of the "city of short distances", which can recharacterise the urban fabric in the study area.
