Excursion Drawing Athens
Echoes of a dense city
The studio explores Athens‘ Agios Pavlos neighborhood, where neoclassical residences coexist with dense apartment blocks from the post-war era – the ‚polykatoikies‘. Facing spatial decline, housing pressure and climate challenges, the area embodies Athens as an ‘incomplete city’ in permanent flux — a condition of instability that offers possibilities for reimagination.
Through multiscale cartographic analysis and artistic practices, the studio challenges conventional planning approaches and develops contextualized design strategies that embrace the city‘s heterogeneity and plurality, supporting neighborhood regeneration while preserving its unique social fabric and urban character.
