Entwerfen Stadtraum Gesundheit
Audit, Edit, Actualize
The design focuses on the urban spaces surrounding the Vienna General Hospital and the Ottakring Clinic. Both sites are currently undergoing complex transformation processes: the healthcare facilities themselves are being renovated and expanded, while their surrounding neighborhoods are also changing. This presents an opportunity to rethink the relationship between healthcare facilities, public spaces, and urban neighborhoods. Student design projects from previous semesters form a pool of knowledge and ideas that will serve as a foundation for this work.
A particular emphasis is placed on creative design work. We are seeking original ideas that go beyond the mere implementation of strategic guidelines and, through precise urban design, develop new qualities and innovative solutions for the respective sites. The conceptual strength of a design idea and its consistent spatial and design elaboration are central to this process.
The resulting projects will be part of a comprehensive exhibition on the theme of “City and Health” in January 2027. The University of Music and Performing Arts is a design partner for this project with its initiative “Grätzl-Töne – This Is How the Vienna General Hospital Sounds.
