Principles of Design – Urban Design
(Re)Productive City
The course provides an overview of the historical development of urban planning and introduces the theoretical and practical fundamentals of open space planning. It clearly explains the background, guiding principles, and objectives of urban planning processes. Key areas of action are analyzed in the context of Vienna, and conceptual and methodological approaches for designs are developed based on this analysis. The work process is oriented toward the further development of existing urban potential and the creation of new qualities under sustainable conditions. Topics such as repair, reorganization, and reprogramming form central approaches in the examination of the idea of the (re)productive city.
The accompanying lecture, held in person and online, is interlinked with the design process of the exercise.
