Principles of Design - Urban Design
Productive city
Production, supply and disposal infrastructures of all kinds are of essential importance for the urban organism. Let us also think of the post-industrial city beyond services, knowledge and business: the city is more than just a place of consumption. In a circular, mixed-use city, the co-existence of production, consumption and disposal, living, working and leisure in harmony with natural systems is essential. All this becomes all the more relevant in view of the fact that we ourselves are (a small but also considerably irritating) part of natural systems, and we can only be successful if we re-integrate these natural systems into the city organism.
The work process follows the premises of further developing existing urban potentials and creating new qualities under sustainable framework conditions such as utilisation mix, resource conservation, climate sensitivity, sustainability, participatory/collaborative negotiation and social balance. The accompanying lecture has the character of a lecture series and is interlinked with the design process in the exercise.
