Lecture and Exercise City and War
Planning in uncertain times
Today's 21st century world is characterized by global conflicts, wars and crises. The wars in Ukraine, Syria, Gaza, Iraq, Russia and other parts of the world are characterized by millions of displaced people, ruined cities and the search for livelihoods. But today's academic education in spatial planning, urban design and architecture pays little attention to these existentially important tasks.
The course offers students a first systematic introduction to understanding, planning and building in endangered regions in an international context. The aim of the course is to understand and analyze the diverse historical and current components of planning in crisis regions and to prepare students through practical exercises for planning and architectural activities in uncertain times and in regions at risk of war.
