Design Studio Dichter : Grüner * Offener _

This semester we will be looking at the AKH university campus of the Medical University of Vienna. The aim is to examine the existing area as an urban structure, to develop a sustainable urban development vision based on this and then to formulate an urban design. 

Structural and programmatic redensification (dichter), climate adaptation measures and open space design (grüner) as well as socio-cultural inclusion and diversity (offener) are the core topics. You will learn to grasp the associated potential and to recognize the complexity of the built and evolved environment. Deriving trend-setting planning questions from this and answering these questions through the specific formulation of a conceptual urban design are dedicated learning objectives.

In this way, urban and spatial production are experienced as a holistic approach based on a design-oriented task. Urban planning should be understood as a transdisciplinary practice with social relevance and as a design challenge including its social, economic, ecological and process-related implications. The teaching of adequate analysis, design and presentation methods and the introduction to relevant discourses are an essential part of the course.
