Entwerfen Tirana Fabrika

While the rest of Albania's socialist heritage has been encapsulated in the present, its industrial stains have either been demolished, left to decay or replaced by new, profit-driven housing estates following privatisation.   

Tirana Fabrika, a brick factory located on the south-western peri urban fringe of the city, represents a superimposition of diverse urban fragments and yet has the potential to become a social hub, revitalising adjacent neighbourhoods through the adaptive re-use of its massive structure, while maintaining production, providing affordable housing and mixed-use spaces. Through collaborative analysis and mapping, scenarios and urban designs will be developed at different scales. 

The studio is part of a collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Tirana.
