Elisabeth Leitner studied Architecture and Event Management in Vienna and earned her PhD with a dissertation on “Urban Building Culture of the European Capital of Culture”
From 2008 to 2016, she was engaged in teaching and research at the Department of Urban Design at TU Wien. From 2016 to 2020, she served as Head of the Architecture Degree Program at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. Since 2020, she has been self-employed in the fields of process facilitation and knowledge transfer (www.elisabethleitner.eu). Since 2025, she holds a tenure-track position on “Building and Planning Culture in Rural Areas” at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, TU Wien.
She is Chairwoman of LandLuft, an association dedicated to promoting building culture in rural areas. She is also a co-founder of “RURASMUS – Research Institute for New Perspectives on Rural Europe” and co-initiator of the podcast “Mutige Frauen braucht das Land - The Countryside Needs Courageous Women”.
