Bibliographical estate of Christoph Luchsinger
In November 2019, retired professor Christoph Luchsinger passed away unexpectedly in Vienna. As a versatile, bibliophile, he had amassed a significant collection of specialist books over the years of his work in teaching, research and practice in architecture and urban planning. In spring 2020, Christoph Luchsinger's widow Jasmina bequeathed this valuable bibliographical estate to the Urban Planning Research Department at TU Wien with the wish to make the collection accessible to researchers and students.
In terms of content, the bibliographical estate reflects Christoph Luchsinger's work as an architect, urban planner, editor, researcher and lecturer at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and the Vienna University of Technology, but also provides insights into his diverse personal interests as a person interested in culture and cuisine.
The estate primarily comprises theoretical works on architecture and urban planning, urban portraits, biographies of renowned 20th century architects as well as art historical monographs and series focussing on Switzerland. A particular focus of the collection is on classical modernism and its specifically Italian manifestation, the so-called Rationalismo. The valuable collection comprises almost 1000 individual titles, consisting of books, serial works, monographs, journals, offprints and university publications - including numerous first editions, many of which have hardly been found in Austrian libraries to date.
This bibliographical legacy of Christoph Luchsinger was viewed and analysed by Stefan Kubin over the course of summer 2020. A representative selection of around 270 volumes reflects the thematic diversity of the entire collection and is now physically located in the specialised library of the Urban Design Research Department at TU Wien.
The aim is to enter the bibliographical inventory into the online catalogue of the TU Vienna library, but unfortunately this is not yet possible due to a lack of personnel resources.
