Library Camillo Sitte
From 1883, the architect and urban planning theorist Camillo Sitte (1843-1903), as director of the Staatsgewerbeschule (now the Camillo Sitte Lehranstalt HTBL Wien) in Vienna, built up a wide-ranging private and teaching library that covered a spectrum of engineering and science, including mechanical and electrical engineering. A particular focus within this library was on architecture-specific topics, which were not only closely related to Sitte's own activities as a planner and teacher, but also reflected Camillo Sitte's passion for bibliophilia.
Although this unique collection was scattered across different locations for a long time, it has now been brought together in large parts and is once again accessible as part of the library of the Urban Design Research Centre. This extraordinary collection contains rare volumes on architectural history and theory from the 16th century onwards, such as the collected works of Vitruvius. The Camillo Sitte Library is kept and conserved by the Library of the Technische Universität Wien and can be accessed via the online catalogue.
