The project examined cross-border interdependencies in the regions of Austria, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. It shed light on everyday life, mobility, education, health, and cooperation between municipalities in the respective border regions, identified potential and barriers to cross-border cooperation, and developed scenarios for integrated metropolitan regions. A survey of 160 municipalities, exemplary scenarios, and best practice examples, such as the HealthAcross or the cooperation between the Thayatal and Podyj national parks, illustrate opportunities for a resilient, networked metropolitan regions.
“Fäden ziehen” is not intended as a conclusive analysis, but rather as a catalyst for highlighting connections, commonalities, and new forms of cooperation, and for promoting long-term integrated structures in a dynamic border region.
