Atlas of Good Teaching
The 15-Minute City in Vienna's Urban Fringe
News
The course series "The 15-Minute City in Vienna's Urban Fringe" has been included in the Atlas of Good Teaching, an initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research. The Atlas recognises innovative teaching concepts at Austrian higher education institutions and showcases examples of excellence in university teaching.
Designed as a four-semester programme, the course series combines research-led teaching with design-based studio work and is closely embedded in the international research project EMC2 – The Evolutive Meshed Compact City. It explores how the concept of the 15-minute city can be adapted to the specific spatial and morphological conditions of Vienna's urban fringe. Building on analytical investigations, historical research, and the Research by Design approach, students develop spatial strategies for the transformation of selected urban fringe areas while simultaneously contributing to ongoing research.
The inclusion in the Atlas of Good Teaching recognises the course series' innovative educational approach, which systematically integrates research and teaching while addressing contemporary challenges in urban design.
Further information about the course series is available in the Atlas of Good Teaching.
