Design Studio mapping of Vienna's industrial and commercial areas
„Make a map, not a tracing!“
Urban industrial landscapes are important, often overlooked components of urban reality. They shape the cityscape and influence social, ecological, and economic processes. This course examines places in Vienna where industrial and non-industrial uses converge. The focus is on questions of spatial, socio-ecological, and perception-related interrelationships: How do they manifest themselves, how can they be represented, how can they be addressed in planning, and what role do they play in the urban fabric? Mapping serves as a critical-creative tool to reveal hidden realities, relationships, and possible futures. The aim is to understand industrial urban spaces not as isolated zones, but as dynamic, contradictory places where social, economic, and ecological questions arise.
